Hey Everyone
Well, I think I am finally ready to play Socom CA. As some of you may know I bought the game yesturday. I learned how to install it on my PS3 thanks to Scorpion, Smoker, and Someone. I downloaded the map packs last night, although it said Socom 3 map packs and not Socom CA. I went to the taining session to get an idea of the controls and I have to admit it wasnt easy. Remember My first online shooter was COD4 and I never played Socom online before. Ok, now, who wants to be the first to kill me? lol. I would like to send friend invites and hopefully get my first game in today sometime. As I mentioned in another post, I hurt my leg jumping into a pool yesturday and I am held up in bed right now with an ice pack but I am really hoping to play later. The online interface seems confusing so once I have friends how can I hook up with them?. My psn id is Jersey201 and my socom id is Jersey67. I will probably create a new id but I was so excited I just wanted to get online. Question, will my Socom CA id carry over to Socom Confrontation? Again, hope to see some of you later?

your Socom Confrontation ID will be your PSN ID. Once you get to the lobby system believe me it is the BEST system out there and it makes it incredibly easy. Now as far as playing with friends you can either add them to your friends list and then hit sqyare on there name and select join game. or if you know what server/room they are in you can just go there and go into the room. Believe me once you get the hang of it you will see how much better of a community/lobby system SOCOM has compared to other games. Well GL on your SCA exprience.

Might I add that before you get used to the default controller settings try the frogman controller settings, because in its not open mic where you can just blurt anything out. I personally use the Frogman controller settings because i think its easier to be in a fire fight and still talk letting everyone knowing whats up.
But, you can always stick with the default just to get used to the jist of the game and how it plays then try the different controller configurations.

Yeah I would have to agree with Shadow. I believe that the socom lobby system is the best. It does take some time to get use to. But once you get it you will start to get spoiled with it. My PSN name is PAs_Smoker and my SocomCA name is the same. Send out some invites.

WOW!
Just got done playing Socom CA for the first time and I hooked up with Scorpion and I saw DillNilla was there too. All I can say is that I was lost!!!!!!!! I had no idea what was going on or where I was going. It is so important to know the maps. I also have to say that coming from next gen graphics COD4 back to the ps2 was tough for me. I am going to find some sites that have the layouts of the maps so at least I have an idea where the enemy is coming from. I can definitely see how you can become hooked on the Socom series. I wish I could have been more help to my team but nobody called me out although I am sure they wanted to, lol. I can say that I got my first and only KILL today out of maybe 10 to 15 games, now that is really bad. Well off to do my homework on the game. Hope to be back on later. Thank You Scorpion for getting my feet wet.

Hey thats what its all about. They don't call you out because they respect that you may be new to the game. All they have to do is look at your rank. Don't worry about if your getting tons of kills or not its just a part of the game to learn it. Everyone here has gone through that part of it. As for the graphics, we know. lol. It's really hard for us too! We enjoy the newer next gen stuff so its hard to come back to the old stuff sometimes. But, we have so much love for the game that we can't help but come back. COD is a fun "arcade" style game. Socom is a strategic "MANS" game (no offense to the ladies, just a fig of speech). It takes patience, learning, skill, technique... theres a lot to it. By the time you've learned the game inside out... you'll be hooked Yep I will get you links to the maps and you'll have at least an idea of where your going.

DillNilla, I accepted your invite, thanks. I was back on again and I was introduced to the world of spawn camping, except I wasnt doing the camping. The map I was playing only had one spawn spot. That was something that I never expierienced with COD4 because there isnt just one exact spawn spot. It felt like "Ground hog day", lol. The other thing that I have to learn is to make sure that I choose the right equiptment to match the type of map I play. I hate to keep comparing to COD4 but thats all I know but I usually used an MP5 and I was picking people off at far distances while moving. Socom seems to be more realistic when it comes to range and accuracy but I could be wrong. DillNilla, I am excited about Socom Confrontation coming out because hopefull I will be learning the gameplay along with the rest of the world but the main reason I picked up Socom Ca was to learn how to play as a team. Until next time, take care

Until next time, take care Respawns are good for some practice. Like sneaking around, keeping your aim steady in fire fights, sniping, and finding good spots and basic skills like communication and such. But the non-respawn rooms are where the fun is it. Because its more realistic and thats mostly what we [PAs] play.

Smiley if you're have trouble with weapon set ups I'll give you a few rough loadouts that you will probably do well with.
Seals: M4A1 - Frontgrip + Rifle Layser or Suppressor1 - This is the best weapon all around in my opion for the seals. Use the rifle layser if you're not too concerned about stealth and suppressor on stealthy maps.
HK5 - Since there's only 3 attachments chose how you want they'll all be pretty similar but you'll notice the slight differences at different ranges. This weapons got a good firerate its fairly powerful and great for close quarters maps.
IW80A2 - Front Grip + Rifle Layser/Suppressor1 - This gun I just personally cant get kills with but it is a great weapon. I can only seem to kill with it when I'm using a Front Grip and Rifle Layser. But the downside is that it's really heavy. It's also great for the sniper/assult player so if you're on a larger open map you may want to try putting a highscope or a 4x scope on it but that's up to you.
MK.48 - Put whatever you want on it except a Thermal Scope and you'll proabably be fine. Just point and shoot, you've got 3 100 round clips.
Any shotgun - Get good with these and you're going to have a lot of people mad at you haha. Plus its just plain fun to knock people down with them. I would personally reccomend you a shotgun to start off with so you can get used to aiming. Go into a respawn and just use the shottys for a little while then switch to an automatic.
Terrorists: STG77 - Front Grip + Suppressor1 - You'll see a LOT of people using this weapon on the Mercs because its accurate, powerful, it has range, and just a damn good gun all around. Its the equivalent of an IW but a little different - no high scope.
RA14 - Front grip + Rifle Layser/Suppressor1 - This weapon is pretty much the terrorist M4A1. Its got a slight bit faster fire rate than the M4 and it seems to do a little less damage.
AK47 - Rifle layser + 4x Scope - This is the most powerful gun in the game in my opion yet its not very accurate in gun fights. If you're within about 3 [player] body lengths of someone if you can get your crosshairs over them its pretty much a done deal this gun's plain wicked but its not very attractive because of the inaccurecy so you wont see too many people using it (except for Hasha of course).
F90 - Suppressor1 - This gun is probably the widest used weapon on the game. Its just like going against someone in COD4 that uses it with Double Tap, Steady Aim, a suppressor and plays hardcore. The guns a beast at close quarters but considering its got 50 bullets and its so powerful and fairly accurate it's been labeled as the "noob" weapon and my god will you hear me among others bitch about it when I get killed by them lol. Not as many people use this gun anymore just because it's almost too easy. Its a spray and pray weapon and for some reason you dont have to do too much praying to get a kill... Don't let me or anyone else tell you what to use if thats what you get kills with you get kills we have people that use it but you'll find you'll probably like other guns better.
Sniping: SR25 - Medium Scope + Suppressor1 - This is an awesome sniper rifle its 2-3 shots to kill someone and it's semi automatic.
SASR - 4x Scope - Suppressor1 - This the Terrorist version of the SR but it doesnt have a medium scope optional, which sucks and no one really understands why. But whatever, use the "silenced" sniper rifles if you can get headshots fairly well or you know where good spots are to get multiple shots off.
M82/M87 - High Scope - These are you're "1 hit" snipers. They're bolt action so you'll have to wait a second to shoot your 2nd shot opposed to as in COD. I know the M82 is the semi-auto sniper (Baretta 50 cal) but the reload time is the same as the M87 to keep things fair (plus you really cant shoot the 50 cal THAT fast THAT accurately...).
Pistols: 9mm - This is a very accurate and decently powerful pistol for Seals. Only drawback is its very shallow clip.
226 - The best all around pistol for the Seals. Its got a pretty large clip, itll shoot as fast as you hit the trigger, just as strong as the 9mm, but a little less accurate.
Mark 23 - Strong, Pretty accurate, very slow firing, large clip.
Terrorists: F57- Large clip, pretty strong, a little inaccurate, slow firing.
Model 18 - Fully automatic, a little weak, decent accurecy, large clip - but itll go QUICK. 80% of the time if you have your crosshairs on the person you just pull the trigger and you've got a kill.
De. 50 - Very strong, shallow clip, good fire rate, very inaccurate.
Hope this is of some help to you smiley. Remember as a sniper grab either 1 or 2 things of smoke and if you want, 1 set of nades. Not everyone will agree with me on some of the gun reviews but thats just my opinion. See you online soon and I hope you stick around.

The STG is also a lot lighter than the IW-80-A2. And i personally think its the best Assault Rifle in the game.
Sniping- all depends on what you like to do. Stealthy and being accurate or give up your position for that 1 shot 1 kill. M87/M82 very popular sniper about 85% of snipers use it. I like the SR-25 Silenced the best. It keeps your whereabouts concealed but with it being silenced the range is shorten to about 140 Meter instead of 200. I also like it better than the SASR because of the simple fact you can put a medium scope on it.

Great stuff, thanks Silent. I started to save weapon setups yesturday. I will definitely give some of these setups a try. I was never into sniping, I tried it a couple of times in COD because of the challenges but it just wasnt me. I will tell you this, getting a kill sniping is probably one of the best feelings but you have to have the patience and the right touch.

Hey Devil
Sorry for the late reply. In all honesty, I tried Socom CA a couple more times but I just cant get used to the graphics. I think I am so spoiled now, playing COD4 on a 46 lcd. I am however playing a different mode on COD. I usually play groundwar and run around like a madman, well there is some technique to my madness, lol, but now I am playing search and destroy. I really had and still am trying to adjust my game. However it seems that my PS3 has been taken over by a certain teenager in the house now that school is out. I dont know what I am going to do since I usually go to bed early, or might I say fall asleep early, lol, especially if I'm not doing anything. If I get on the PS3 early, I can lose track of time and go to asleep between 1 and 2 but getting up early for work is a killer. It's not only my kid but my wife enjoys watching TV at night, even though she says that she doesnt mind me playing but I still feel bad that she is watching TV on a 15" instead of the main TV. I feel really lucky though that my biggest problem in life right now is that I cant get enough time on the PS3. I have to put my thinking cap on and figure out some type of solution, either move the PS3 and get a smaller lcd to play on, or buy another PS3, this way I can always play on the big screen when it is availble but some how I dont think my life warrants two PS3, lol. I can tell you this, I AM FRIGING JONES "N" ALL THE TIME TO PLAY, LOL. Like I said, I can have alot worse problems so I will keep my perspective on things. I hope to get some playing time in this weekend, late Friday and Saturday night when the kid is out and the better half falls alseep on the couch. I hope to get with some PAs this weekend. Until next time, Take Care All.
