yeah, but take a second and realize, if there is a sprint mechanic(where you double your speed at the expense of being able to shoot) you are going to want a sprint button. I don't know about you, but I push my sticks to the limit ALL the time. Even when I don't want to. If you make the sprint mechanic kick in if you push your sticks all the way forward, you are going to be sprinting all the time when you don't want to. BC2 ane BF3 have the best sprint system. No there is no sprint mechanic.. LOL has it been so long that we forgot how it worked? BF3 does have a good sprint system. If you must have a sprint system in your game that is how it should be done. However Socom or at least the true Socoms don't and this one won't either according to the creative director. I can't be more happy about them going back to the core ways of what made the game good. Being third person your character can move fast and shoot at the same time. The recoil/accuracy is controlled by the spread of the crosshairs the faster you move.

I would prefer open mic then push to talk....combined with a voting system you can easily boot the annoying folk. Melee/Knifing is something that I like and want to be included in the game. Sprint is not a big issue for me. The problem in Confrontation was that the default sprint button was R2, so you couldn't have your finger ready on fire (R1). Also if I remember correctly if you were sprinting and let go of the sprint button your guy would make this sort of coming to a halt animation which would like delay your shooting which was realistic but annoying. So if it's like COD and all you have to do is press L3 and move the analog stick that is not a big deal for me. Open mics usually means I mute everyone.. I don't want to hear your babies crying and or your wife/mom telling you to take out the trash.

I agree with Crusty on the open mic issue, although, they need to make so at least 2 people can call out stuff at the same time instead of just 1 person. I messaged the creative director, David Sears about it and showed him my post. Morstly about the speech recognition. But here is my post on SOF forums. sofstudios.com/index.php?/topic/1133-how-should-the-mic-work/?p=18250It is frustrating "waiting your turn" to call something out, because sometimes by the time it is your turn your dead, or you can't wait to call it out you have to act with nobody on the same page as you. I believe there should be a PPT system with a max number of 2-3 players who can be talking at one time. Also, there should be a way to designate 1 or 2 "priority speaker(s)" who is louder than other speakers or just completely shuts down the PPT system so they can have the floor. The priority speaker would broadcast through all the radio channels so important info can be relayed. Although, I could see how something like that could be abused in a open/public game room. Or if there is a PPT max 1, even if it isnt just max 1, let us tap the button to talk and we can get voice recognition for commands such as "I got your back" "room clear" "i got the hostages" and let the in-game player say it, and flash a green message at the top of the screen so the people within proximity can still communicate. The commands were awesome, just hard to use and waste of valuable seconds. This "voice recognition" could be the Tap to Talk feature, and let the Hold to Talk be the actual mic. I don't think "voice recognition" is to far fetched either. Then I messaged Sears and asked him what he thought of the speech recognition. And here is his response. "Hi, Dylan,
I loved that aspect of the early SOCOMs. The team command interface and the speech recognition is definitely intended for the game.
Speech recognition has come a long way since the early SOCOM days. At that time we could only support a very few commands because the processors just weren't powerful enough to handle more. Now doing something like what you describe is more reasonable and more likely. And I like it. It's the kind of thing that really adds to the fun factor--great style and actually enhances communication.
Thanks for the input!
Regards,
David"

I wouldn't even mind that if you tap the PTT, a little triangle goes over the enemies head for two seconds. Hopefully they will make the compass a little more clear than most games.

I can't believe they finished with 252k that's pretty amazing. Two or three weeks ago it was looking very bleak as to whether they would even make their goal.

This isn't Battlefield lol I would hate the Battlefield tag enemy system in a "socom" game like it or hate it, you have to admit it is a helpful tool, especially if they go back to the one person at a time PTT. How many times has your entire team been wiped out by one or two guys who were able to flank and you were unable to get the mic because some douchebags were talking about f**kin each others moms.

I agree with you. I think maybe they could put a 2 or 3 person limit on it. I just think that it is undeniable how much BS background noise that system censors out. It's worth it imo to look into going back to the old ways with maybe a couple new tweaks.

The 1 person PTT adds to the excitement of the game, I thought anyway. But I agree they need to make it somewhat more tantalizing for people to use the in-game mic system and not third party software, i.e. skype, teamspeak, ventrilo

As preluded to in Update #35:
Over the course of our Kickstarter campaign many of you have asked me “Will I be able to pledge at a later time?” and “I don’t have a credit card. How can I become a supporter?” In response we are offering a PayPal option for you. For one month only you can pledge to the same tiers with the same rewards as we offered during the Kickstarter campaign. And if you wanted to pledge more but ran out of time, you can increase your pledge using PayPal. However, after this limited pledge drive extension ends, no Kickstarter rewards will be available to anyone who did not already pledge.
The ability to donate through PayPal is now available at www.sofstudios.com. This will only remain available for 30 days after July 7th 5:00 pm (EST)./posts/532925I had some unexpected car repairs come my way so i had to go down to $65, however, i will be adding to my original pledge for the $150 so i can get into the beta

An Interview with David Sears about H-Hour. online.egl.tv/newspost.php?id=941Will you look into incorporating a voice modulation system?
Probably not. We’re encouraging and rewarding people to play as a team and to cooperate closely. It’s pretty hard to treat a teammate that sounds like Mickey Mouse or a robot seriously and would only get in the way of the immersion.
Can you prone dive similarly to SOCOM 2 i.e. run and then dive into prone position?
That’s another good question for the community. I am sure I talked about it before but I need to go back over my notes to be sure what I said. Thank goodness I file all this stuff away. But it is going to take time to go through it all. However, I like dive to prone and as I recall, lots of people do as well.
To pick up a satchel/bomb, will you simply have to run over it or will you have to press an action button to pick it up?My preference is to go with “special action” as in you have to push a button to pick up anything. Every object is given a priority so that a satchel charge would appear as your first option to pick up over say a nearby corpse or a pistol. But this approach gives you a little more precision and it works through a single system rather than two or more systems.
When you have died and you're watching another teammate in battle, will you be able to see his aiming reticule so that you can appreciate some of his/her 'mad' skills (or lack of)?!
If we support a “teammate follow” camera, sure. That’s an easy feature with a cool payoff as your question describes.
Will you enforce any delays for third party spectators (those who join the game in spectator mode rather than to play) to prevent them from helping any particular sides out? Do you fear that competitive matches might be tarnished due to gamers being able to use third party voice software such as Skype or Teamspeak?
It’s always a risk that unscrupulous players will try to exploit any competitive game in the way you describe and we’ll be addressing that. We are going to be talking to representatives from several gaming leagues to sum up the concerns and then design to deal with those. Now that push to talk has been confirmed, will it be open (i.e. as long as you push the button, you can talk irrespective of whether anyone else is talking) or will it be closed like SOCOM 2 (i.e. you push the button but cannot speak until someone else has released his/her button)?
PTT isn’t 100% since I haven’t formally opened the discussion with the community yet, but based on my observations so far, it’s trending toward a PTT approach. And after that discussion I can tell you precisely how the mic system will be implemented but not yet. Will your character be able to swim?
Not at launch. You won’t miss it though since most of the maps don’t feature deep water. Will there be separate gaming handles/usernames or will your PSN username be the gamertag? How will usernames work for PC?
It’s our intention to allow you to create a unique identity for use in H-Hour. You could reuse your PSN name or choose something different. For PC it is equally important to create a user name that expresses your personality. And one that’s easy enough for other people to type out and remember. Can your character jump? If so, will he/she be able to shoot whilst in mid-air?Yes and yes. But the last one has a heavy penalty. Shooting while jumping is very inaccurate and while it’s amusing, it’s not going to be the most effective approach to combat. But I believe that you should be able to play more or less how you want as long as your team is happy, you’re having fun, and you’re not ruining the game for other people.
Certain maps in SOCOM 2 allowed you to call in an air strike to breach multiple points simultaneously. Are there any similar features planned in H-Hour?
Yes. Will there be flash bangs and smokes?
Yes, of course. They are invaluable equipment for room clearing (flash bangs) and marking targets or covering your movements (smoke), among other practical uses.
Will there be any form of armour that makes you 'sponge' more bullets but slows you down, or will the playing field be level in this department?
The community seems generally against body armor. And I am a proponent of everyone “entering on a level playing field.” I believe that individual skill and the ability to excel at team based play should be the primary criteria to succeed in a match, not how much armor you’re wearing. However, I do have a simple design for this I think people would like but I will not implement it if the community doesn’t want it. Will machine guns such as the M60 return?Heavy machine guns will be in the game. However, I can’t commit to the M60 yet.
In SOCOM 2, whenever the round was over, there was a brief 'cool down' period of approximately 10 seconds where you could continue doing victory dances, killing enemies (if some are still alive) or even team kill, all whilst victory music was being played in the background. Will this be making a return and if so, will any actions carried out during this period be recorded as part of the final performance stats?Yes, but you can’t kill people during this period. It’s for aesthetic effect, showing off, victory dances, and stat display. Will there be a radar and if so, what will it contain?
Possibly but probably not at launch. Radar would, if we do it, give you the outlines of the terrain and architecture and indicate the enemies that your character was looking at. We’d have to think and talk about whether to “share” situational awareness among teammates though. Again, no commitment for radar at launch. Will there be an option to auto boot someone if they commit too many team kills, when making a room? There are going to be several ways teams can police themselves and remove and report obnoxious players. Adding a simple filter to check for team kills is one automatic way to screen out some of the griefers, but if they’re working together we have to be able to identify them and boot them permanently. That’s where the extra community tools we intend to build will be really helpful.
