So I just recently started watching soccer (err Football) and really have no idea of what teams are good/lousy. And since in good ol America there is a low priority of Futball on tv, I really haven't gotten a chance to watch teams to see their playstyle and which teams I like. So I thought I would ask some of my PAs brothers what teams they like and help me with some football knowledge! Plus I need a team for FIFA Basic stuff: Playstyle, Main players, fan base etc

i like Manchester United personally.
style of play changes with man u depending on who is in and what not. but lately they been goin through the midfield to the outside and look for a diagonal ball to either one of the forwards or from the center mid over top the defense for a forward to run on to it, thats how they play when they have rooney and chicharito up top. if they have berbatov (who i think is going to be traded since chicharito has been playing great) up top they usually look for him to cross the ball into to score headers but like i said he hasnt been getting a lot of playing time towards the end of the season and i dont even think he played a lot or at all when man u did a tour through the usa playin MLS teams and the MLS All Stars. They have a solid back four vidic ferdinand fabio/rafeal (twin brothers) and evra center midfield they have carrick and fletcher but park ji sung has come back from injury and performed above my expectations during the UEFA Champions league. Fan base is world wide and man u has always been a solid team. Just look at all the trophies they have over the decades

Good info Dill! I've been doing some studying tonight and have "narrowed" it down to Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Real Madrid. I know that Real Madrid are in a different league so I'll prolly just root for them anyways. From watching some videos, it looks like Real and Arsenal play the "Pretty" type of football and Chelsea and Man U play "effective" football.
I also don't know many players on the squads EPL side. Rooney and Drogba are the only two players I really know and like. Arsenal focuses on "youngsters to youngSTARS" or so I've heard.
I really wish I knew more about the sport. I watch ESPN everyday but coverage of Soccer is low unless it's USA in a tournament lol.
Also who would be considered the NY Yankees of the EPL. I hate teams that spend an ungodly amount of cash for wins. Drives me nuts.

"From watching some videos, it looks like Real and Arsenal play the "Pretty" type of football and Chelsea and Man U play "effective" football" No No No!
Dont fall into the trap of thinking that ManU is some kind of super team, their not. To EPL (unless you are from Manchester), they are the "Lakers or the Miami Heat" of Football. They are good, because they buy up all the best players to be competetive.
So to answer your question: "Also who would be considered the NY Yankees of the EPL. I hate teams that spend an ungodly amount of cash for wins. Drives me nuts." = ManU. They cant generate enough revenue to pay their players. ManU fans thought they were going to win the UEFA, because they had Rooney or Nani or Berbatov... they just cant compete with a real team and it showed.
Dont get me wrong, because i am an Arsenal fan, but ManU does have talented players. What upsets me about them, is how everyone jumps on the ManU Turnip Truck not knowing about Football. There are plenty of talented players and teams out there.
Im a fan of EPL and La Liga. Serie A is ok to watch too.

Thanks Matto for clearing that up! So that's a big f*** you to man U! Sorry Dill... Don't fret I give the Yankees the same salute so you're in good company . So now its between Arsenal and Chelsea. And you know Matto I would really like to hear what you have to say about Chelsea being an Arsenal fan lol. BTW, while you're here, what is Arsenal's playstyle/Players to look out for?

Top leagues in the world are EPL (England), La Liga (Spain) and Serie A (Italy)
All the leagues have quality players from around the world. But it's safe to say that the EPL is probably the best in terms of quality, parity and talent.
This last champions league semi-final between Real Madrid and Barcelona just showed how the game is being ruined by diving/flopping and acting, this was supposed to be the best teams in the world facing off yet it turned out to be a disgrace.
Italy had a match fixing scandal a few years ago and is still recovering from that.
Yankees of the EPL would be Chelsea and Manchester City.
As much as I hate Manchester Utd, they honestly don't spend that much compared to Chelsea, Barcalona, Real Madrid....They do have a very large fanbase but I would compare them more to the Lakers then to the Yankees.
Chelsea's Owner is a Russian billionaire and he pretty much controls the team in terms of personnel....they spend an insane amount of money at every transfer window. So you can pretty much cross that off your list.
Now goose the team you should be rooting for is Liverpool.....and I will tell you why.....

yeah matto your WAY off about Man U being the Yankees of the EPL LOL , if you look at the transfers that could/are taking place right now... man city is lookin to spend a pretty penny. i found this table. it represents the clubs spending from 1992 - 2010. you tell me who the Yankees are of the EPL... courtesy of www.footballtransfertavern.com/2011/07/premiership/transfer-spend-of-your-club-since-1992Man U mostly buys players that are under the radar of everybody else, they also go for the young players. Sir Alex Ferguson likes getting players like this so they can develop into the club... look at Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito only cost Man U 6 million pounds... and chicharito is supposedly the next big thing. Yes Man U does spend a bit of money but they have success behind it, they definitely dont spend as much as some other clubs tho. So matto, you are oh so wrong on this one.

That table can be a bit misleading, Man U were big spenders during the late 90s and it probably won't show up in that table. But yeah the top spending teams currently are clearly Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid and Barca.

Club History Liverpool is the 2nd most successful and most decorated club in English football. (Manchester Utd just overtook Liverpool last season) They were the most dominant team during the 70s and 80s but their last league title came during the 1989-90 season. Liverpool still is a top team…..finishing 2nd place during the 2008-09 season. They won the Champions League in 2005, lost in the Final in 2007 and won the FA Cup in 2006. But with ownership troubles it seemed that things were going downhill instead of getting better. The club sold quality players Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso. However this past season the fans finally got want they wanted…..new ownership. John Henry who owns the Boston Red Sox purchased the team last season and the future is very bright for Liverpool. Club Anthem 2005 Champions League Game: Liverpool were major underdogs when the competition started and even underdogs for the game....what a game...one of the best games ever....just watch: 2006 FA Cup: Liverpool were favorites for the game....but wow what a game.... Steven Gerrard – Liverpools heart and inspiration right from Liverpool’s Youth Academy. Some of his greatest goals. Well there you go.....Goose I know your a Red Sox fan so this should be the team you root for. The Owner even said that he wanted to end Liverpools title drought like he did with the Red Sox. The team have made some quality signings during last years December transfer window as well as this current window. All I know is that this upcoming EPL season is going to be a tight one....should be fun to watch.

So basically Man U used to spend a shit ton of money but the recent future is less than the super spenders. Still seems like a bandwagon team. And Naz way to tug on the strings of a Red Sox Fan! lol. So now the choice is Man U?, Arsenal or liverpool. I watched an Arsenal game from earlier in the year and damn that is some smooth play. I like the passing and technicality of the squad. I'll look into Liverpool Naz and see how they play tonight. Thanks for all the info fellas. And keep it coming! I have a lot to learn it seems...

Haha yeah that sucks....but it's a very small share...the reason they signed LeBron was for the marketing side...apparently LeBron is big in Asia.
Also check out this funny vid of a Man U supporter during a Liverpool game in Asia:

LOL I love me some Naz! Dill like I said, nothing against Man U.... They are the yankees! Thats all Im saying. Showing me a fabricated list doesnt mean they dont spend money.
Goosey, its ok to like more than one team. just dont like ManU or Chelsea. I really like Steven Gerrard, he plays for liverpool.
One thing we can agree on is that EPL is a weird animal... any given day your team can get smashed.

Well I watched a match yesterday with Liverpool vs Fulham. Sometimes Liverpool plays smooth but the rest of the time it looks very disorganized. IDK between Arsenal (Pretty) and Liverpool (Sox Owner). I may just support them both and after watching a few games... hell after this season I'll be able to make a decision.

Yeah Arsenal play pretty good with the players they have...but they have a lot of questions about their players....lot of rumors going on about transfers. Barcelona want Fabregas and a few teams also want Nasri. Also Arsenal needs to fix/improve their GK/CB situation....they were very disorganized at the back last season.
But what you need to do Goose is watch this English highlight show called "Match of the Day" to familiarize yourself with the teams and players.
It shows the highlights of all the games that weekend....you can download it on torrents or I can give you a link to a forum where they post up downloadable links. But of course you'll have to wait till September when the season starts.

Cool shit Naz. I'll have to check that out! I watched some old Liverpool matches from last season and I must say I do like what I see. Couple of the best futball games I've seen so far. Gerrard has some sweet skills!

Epl is just good football no matter what team you watch. Even the Wolverhampton wolves play good they rent the best but they still get wins against top clubs like man u arsenal and Liverpool. You should watch green street hooligans thats a good movie to watch to understand the fan base of football shot gets pretty intense
